Is it possible to eat intuitively and meal plan? The answer is YES! The only thing is it’s going to look a lot different than any other dieting meal plan you’re used to….
“Discover the Satisfaction Factor” is one of the 10 principles of intuitive eating and it’s often considered the base of the entire intuitive eating framework. Enjoying food you choose to eat is part of the intuitive eating equation!
When you give yourself permission to eat foods you genuinely want to eat—instead of ones you think you’re supposed to eat to diet or ‘be healthy’—you’re more likely to feel satisfied and content with your meal, especially if you can eat them mindfully and in a pleasurable eating environment. When you’re emotionally satisfied with your meal, it’s much easier to find your comfortable fullness point too. This in turn empowers you to feel the difference with food and consider your gentle nutrition needs more consistently and effortlessly too.
Ask yourself: “what sounds good to me this week?” If you have no allergies or medically necessitated dietary restrictions, consider all your options.
Meal planning in diet culture involves spending an entire weekend day cooking diet foods and pre-portioning them into containers, then marking them with calories or “points”… yikes. These meal plans with help make it feel less diet-like.
Rather than a rigid plan, think in terms of being “meal ready.” You use these meal plans to inspire food choices and bring feel-good meals to your dinner table. You can experiment with other foods within the meal plan on different days or if you choose not to eat the exact meal I have provided, it’s ok. This approach leaves room for flexibility so if you do not feel in the mood for said meal, make it your own.
Being meal ready honors your right to eat tasty food that satisfy and sound good while incorporating gentle nutrition in a way that supportive of your individual lifestyle and health goals.
